It was work that brought me to this part of town for lunch. It was a recent article from Eater on the best fried chickens that brought me to Charles. When I saw that the Charles classic only costs $10 and comes with two pieces of chicken, a side, and a cornbread, I knew that ordering the combo was my easiest decision of the day. While we all know that white meat is healthier than dark meat, but does that rule apply when we are eating fried chicken? For the combo, I opted for juicier dark meat and ordered Mac and cheese as a side. A few bites into the chicken and I am convinced that the Eater reporters were right on the money. I loved how the skin had just the right amount of batter where I got that amazing crunch but I was still able to tell that it was chicken skin that I was biting into, not something that's too thick or been sitting in the fryer for too long. The Mac and cheese was not as creamy as ones I am used to eating, yet it was delicious in its way as the cheesy taste really shines through. The corn bread was also good and moist. This might be one of the best $10 combo deals you can find in NYC. You can also enjoy your meal sitting under an umbrella at a picnic table watching the traffic go by in the part of upper Manhattan.

Charles Pan-Fried Chicken in Harlem isn't just a restaurant; it's a pilgrimage site for any fried chicken enthusiast. Having heard the legends and hype, I approached with a mix of excitement and skepticism, half-expecting to encounter the usual letdown that often accompanies such renowned spots. However, I couldn't have been more wrong. The fried chicken here isn't just good; it's a revelatory experience. Each piece was flawlessly crispy on the outside while remaining unbelievably juicy on the inside, seasoned to perfection. This was undoubtedly the best southern fried chicken I've ever had, and we picked up our food at the closing hours. Accompanying the star of the meal were sides that could easily take center stage themselves: the cornbread was sweet and moist, the candied yams were a delightful nod to tradition with just the right amount of sweetness, and the potato salad was very creamy, grounding the meal. Service at Charles Pan-Fried Chicken matched the quality of the food--warm and friendly, with a genuine hospitality. The staff's enthusiasm and care were apparent, making an already fantastic meal even more enjoyable. I left Charles Pan-Fried Chicken not only full but fulfilled. This place not only lived up to the hype--it exceeded it. One of the few places I enjoyed so much I forgot to take any pictures before finishing!

Ordered pickup as i was going to take a car from Harlem to southernn brookltn because i had a lot of my painting gear and 50 cans of spray paint. So, in order for a smoothly timed Uber arrangement thsf I didn't hail until I was alerted, my order was complete at 5pm. Get all my gear loaded up, and we are off to pick up food. Inhadnt mentioned. I have not eaten anything yet this day. OK, keep it together. Be patient matt6. I was told they would be working on it right away. Strange inthoughf.' It'd been an hour and you told me it was ready ealier' to myself. What I didn't factor in was the Uber driver marching in and being super possed off. That got the front of the house guys rush to finalize my order The chicken was still amazingly crisp 45 mon later The collard green were great. The Mac and cheese was heavy andntaged vsrg is good.

Picked up a takeout order, food was ready when I came. It was all delicious. Even hours later, after re-heating the chicken in the oven, it still had a good crunch and wasn't dry.

Great southern style fried chicken .. and the size of the pieces look normal and not like some of the injected poultry you see in the supermarkets. The two main things that stood out was the black eye peas and the bbq sauce! Excellent... The ambiance is nice and has pictures of some pretty famous ppl on the walls. Stop by early on the weekday and there's usually no line. It's worth the trip.

Wow, that was some really good fried chicken! I was the area for work and drove by an available parking spot right at the corner so I took that as my sign that I was finally going to cross another Harlem Soul Food spot off my list. Warm greeting followed by great customer service. I peeped how delicious the generous pieces of chicken were actually being fried in a large cast iron pan and know that's exactly what I needed. The chicken was fried perfectly and thoroughly with a flavorful crispy skin. I opted for the Mac & Cheese, Potato Salad and Collard Greens which were solid. Don't leave without a beverage or a piece of cornbread, both were yummy. Next time, I'm coming back for desserts!

We ordered delivery take out and it was fantastic the food we got was 10 piece pan fried chicken along with several sides such as mac and cheese potato salad and collard greens. personally i was not a fan of the mac and cheese and the potato salad had a vinegar after taste to it but nonetheless it was made very well the collard greens and fried chicken were the star of the show and was absolutely delicious packed with flavor. i liked the corn bread too. Looking forward to dining at the star location soon! A++
